What is a motorbike history check?
A motorbike history check is a report that uncovers a used bike’s hidden past using official UK data. A test ride and a friendly seller tell you nothing about whether a motorcycle still has finance owing on it, has been reported stolen, or has been written off and rebuilt. Our check does, in seconds, from just the registration number.
Buying privately carries real risk: if a bike is still on finance, the lender can legally repossess it from you; if it’s stolen, you can lose both the bike and your money. A few pounds now can save you thousands.
What our motorbike check reveals
Outstanding finance
See if the bike still has HP or PCP finance against it that could see it repossessed. Finance Data provided by Experian.
Stolen check
We search police theft records (Police National Computer) so you don’t buy a stolen bike.
Insurance write-offs
Reveals Category A, B, S and N write-offs that affect value and safety.
Mileage & clocking
Flags mileage discrepancies that suggest the odometer has been wound back.
Plate changes
Shows previous registrations that can be used to mask a bike’s history.
VIN & V5C check
Confirms the frame number and logbook match the bike in front of you.
Scrapped & Certificate of Destruction
Identifies bikes that should never legally return to the road.
Import / export markers
Highlights bikes brought in from or sent abroad, which may lack UK history.
Previous keepers
How many owners the bike has had, and how long they kept it.
MOT & tax status
Full MOT history, advisories and current tax standing.
Valuation
An estimated market value so you know you’re paying a fair price.

Common questions
What does a full motorbike history check include?
Outstanding finance, stolen markers, insurance write-off categories, mileage anomalies, previous plate and colour changes, and the bike’s recorded specification, MOT and tax status.
How long does a check take?
About a minute. Enter the registration, and the report is generated and available to download as a PDF as soon as payment clears.
Do I need the V5C to run a check?
No. The registration number is enough to run the check. You should still ask to see the V5C in person, so you can confirm the VIN and engine number match the bike.
What is the difference between the free check and the full check?
The free check confirms what the bike is: specification, tax and SORN status, and the full MOT history with mileage. The full check adds the records that decide whether to buy: outstanding finance, theft markers, write-off history, plate changes and valuation.
How much does a motorbike history check cost?
The full check is £9.99 as a single payment, with no account and no subscription. The free check costs nothing and is the sensible first pass on any shortlist, so you only pay for the one or two bikes you are serious about.
Can I check if a motorbike is stolen?
Yes. The full check queries the Police National Computer for an active theft marker against both the registration and the frame number, and checks whether the V5C logbook appears on the stolen documents register. If a marker shows, walk away and report it.
Can I check a motorbike for outstanding finance?
Yes. The full check searches the credit reference agency registers and shows any live agreement, along with the lender, the agreement type and when it started. While finance is outstanding the lender owns the bike, so it is the first thing worth ruling out.
Should I still run a check on a bike from a dealer?
Yes. Dealers get caught out too, and a good one will not mind you checking. Buying from a trader gives you stronger consumer rights, but rights are a remedy after the fact. A check before you pay is how you avoid needing them.
